Living on the Upper West Side of Manhattan has its advantages. High ground prevents flooding. Frequent bus service, in all directions, is an alternative to subway use. And I was lucky, as so many others in NYC were not. Electricity, heat, and plentiful food remained available throughout the storm with its pelting rain. The city, especially downtown, is suffering lacking power and soaking wet. Skies were blue on Wednesday, Oct. 30th, and restaurants in my neighborhood were crowded with children off from school and many parents off from work. Not till Friday will more normal conditions prevail.
