Fabulous Piaf was honored at the Beacon Theater, NYC, Thursday evening, September 19th, with performances commemorating her life and marking the 50th anniversary of her death. Twenty or so singers warbled and belted out the tunes that Piaf made famous. La Vie en Rose, Padam...Padam, Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien, and Jezebel were highlights of the evening. The Beacon is gorgeous, in Art Deco style with its lavish Greek goddesses and its gilded moldings and ornaments. The general liveliness and gaiety of the evening stood in sharp contrast to the sadness of Piaf's life of international fame and early death. Alas.
