The Flitting Fritillary

July 05, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

The flitting fritillary lands deftly on the butterfly bush with its clustered flowers, honey scented, rich in nectar, this one vibrant purple. The shrub's  botanic name is Buddleia, bestowed by Linnaeus posthumously for the Reverend Adam Buddle (1662-1715), a botanist and rector in Essex England. Nice touch.
